Privacy Policy
Updated:
This policy explains what data Meetility collects, why we collect it, who can see it, and the control you have over it. We’ve written it in plain language on purpose. If anything is unclear, email us at hello@meetility.ae.
The short version: we collect what the product needs to work — your account details, your interests, your approximate location for event discovery, and your messages — and we don’t sell any of it.
What data does Meetility collect?
Account and contact information. When you sign up, we collect the basics needed to create and secure your account: your name, email address and/or phone number, password, and optionally a profile photo and short bio. Your profile can be set to private, in which case people must send a follow request to see it.
Your interests. Meetility is built on interest-based matching, so we store the interests you pick (sports, tech, food, languages, and so on). These power your event and people suggestions — the more precisely you set them, the better the suggestions get.
Location. We use your city and, if you allow it, your device’s approximate location to show you nearby events and sort suggestions by distance. Location permission is optional; without it, you can still browse events by city.
When Nearby is on and you have recently shared your location, other members can see an approximate point on its map and an approximate distance. Nearby never shares your exact location with them. Turn off Nearby in your location settings to hide yourself; while it is off, you cannot see other people in Nearby either.
Messages and event activity. We store the messages you send in event group chats and one-to-one conversations, your event joins and RSVPs, the events you host, your ratings, and the photos and videos you share — in chats, in an event’s memories, and, if you host, in your event’s gallery. Memories are approved by the event host before other members can see them. After that, who can see them depends on the event: anyone with a Meetility account for public and unlisted events; the event’s members and the host’s followers for private events; the people invited for invite-only events.
Videos. Videos are stored with their sound. When you upload one, the original file goes straight to our video provider, which converts it so it plays on every device, makes preview images from it, and stores it for us.
Payments. If you buy a ticket to a paid event, the payment is processed securely by our payment providers. We keep a record of the transaction — event, amount, and status — so you and the host have a receipt.
Technical data. Like most apps, we collect basic device and usage information (device type, app version, crash logs) to keep Meetility fast and fix bugs.
How do we use your data?
- To run the product: show you relevant events, deliver your messages, manage joins and tickets, and let hosts run their events.
- To match you: your interests and location drive suggestions of events and people with the most overlap with you.
- To keep the community safe: verified hosts, ratings, and reports depend on account data; we review reported content and accounts.
- To communicate with you: service messages about your events (join approvals, changes, reminders) and, only if you opt in, product updates.
- To improve Meetility: aggregated, non-identifying usage data tells us what’s working.
We do not sell your personal data, and we don’t show third-party ad tracking inside the app.
Do we record how people use the website?
Yes. On meetility.ae — the website and the web app — we use Microsoft Clarity to see how people use our pages, so we can find what’s confusing and fix it. Clarity records page views, clicks, taps and scrolling, and replays how the page looked (heatmaps and session recordings), along with basic device and browser details.
- Private pages are never recorded: messages, the Nearby page and its map, memories pages (an event’s memories, the memories feed and adding a memory), the pages where hosts manage an event (managing it, check-in, its tickets and editing), tickets, wallet and payments, account settings, sign-up and verification codes. An event’s own page can still show a preview of its memories.
- Recordings aren’t linked to your account. We never send Clarity your account ID; what you type into forms is masked, and email addresses and numbers on a page are hidden.
- No advertising. We switch off Clarity’s advertising cookies.
- Cookies. Clarity uses its own cookies to connect the pages of one visit. For visitors in the EU, the UK and Switzerland it runs without cookies.
- Website only. The mobile apps don’t use Clarity.
Microsoft processes this data as described in the Microsoft Privacy Statement. Clarity also respects your browser’s Global Privacy Control setting.
Who can see your data?
- Other members see what you choose to show: your public profile (or a private one behind follow requests), your messages in chats you’re part of, the memories you post (who can see them depends on the event, as described above), and, if you host, your event’s gallery.
- Event hosts see the profile information of people who request to join their event, so they can approve or decline.
- Service providers — hosting, video processing, payments, analytics (including Microsoft Clarity), and crash reporting — process data on our behalf under contracts that limit them to exactly that.
- Legal requirements. We may disclose data if the law genuinely requires it, and only what’s required.
That’s the full list. No data brokers, no advertisers.
How long do we keep your data?
For as long as your account exists. A video you upload but never send or post is deleted automatically a day or two later.
When you delete your account, every video you uploaded is deleted, wherever you shared it — including clips you sent in other people’s chats. The messages you sent stay in their conversations so the group’s history remains intact, but without the photos and videos in them. Photos you added to an event — its cover, gallery or memories — may stay with the event. Transaction records are kept as long as accounting rules require.
What are your rights?
- Access and correction. You can view and edit your profile, interests, and settings directly in the app at any time.
- Deletion. You can delete your account yourself, in the app, under account settings — no email or support ticket needed. Deletion removes your profile and personal data from the platform and deletes every video you uploaded; the messages you sent stay in their conversations (see the section on how long we keep your data), and we may retain transaction records where the law requires it.
- Location and notifications. Both are device permissions you can revoke at any time in your phone’s settings.
- Questions and complaints. Email hello@meetility.ae and we’ll respond within two business days.
Children
Meetility is not directed at children. You must meet the minimum age in our terms of service to create an account, and we remove accounts that don’t.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we’ll update the date at the top and notify you in the app before the change takes effect. Continued use of Meetility after that means you accept the updated policy.
